The lamp is born from the sun
The lamp symbolizes both Surya and Agni in Vedic tradition. Gods are believed
to dwell in the light of the holy lamp. Considering that it is associated with
expulsion of literal and metaphorical darkness, it is but natural that it be adorned
when possible. This set is designed keeping the akhand jyoti in mind. A covered
diya keeps insects and dirt from falling into the oil, and the tongs are provided to adjust the tongs as required.

Note that Brassware from Mahoba, in which the tongs are made, is considered a threatened art form.
