The word Shazar comes from the Arabic word Shajr meaning "tree". Shazar is a dendritic agate, a gift exclusive to the Ken river that flows through the rocky terrain of Bundelkhand, India. Legend has it that the river sketches an image of whatever stands still in front of it, which explains the tree like formations found in the layers of its stones. The formations are actually fossilized and entrapped minerals and algae; by some estimates a million years old.

It takes an extremely practised hand to carve and polish a Shazar pebble so as to reveal its most flattering cross section. Here the polished stones have been encased in sterling silver. Due to the nature of its formation, no two stones are similar, making each pair truly one of a kind. The dendritic agate is a stone of protection, healing and resonance with nature.
