The fluttering leaves of the magnificent Banjh oak tree, also called the "green gold of Uttarakhand"- make for a dazzling and otherworldly sight- the leaves are dark green the top but a radiant silver at the bottom, making the tree shimmer in the wind. Amongst the water guzzling and aloof pines of colonial plantations, the Banjh provides a haven for biodiversity both on and below it, and locals in Garhwal associate its glades with a healthy weather for children. We pay tribute to it with our butter bell.
A butter bell is an age-old invention designed to keep your butter at the absolute ideal temperature for spreading. To use it, fill the bell part with butter to the brim. To the cylindrical outer container, pour in a small quantity of cold water to create a seal when the two parts are put together. The water seal keeps the butter fresh up to two weeks without refrigeration. Add fresh water when you see fit. For extremely hot weather, you can refrigerate the bell at night and leave it out all day.
The leaves of the banjh oak tree feature on the lid in our butter bell in exquisite inlay of shell and abalone in marble.
